3 club backcrosses

Steven Ragatz - 30th October, 2001.

In many respects, single backcrosses, under the arm, alberts and treblas are functionally equivalent. Working on all of them will transfer to each other.

Backcrosses with more than one spin come up the middle of the back, but single spins can be done with the clubs either coming over the shoulder, like multiple spin backcrosses, or out to the side. If you are trying to balance something, or bounce a ball on your head, then over the shoulder is the choice. If you want to do the throws to the side, you have to flip your head back and forth to see the sideways throws. Over the shoulder is slower, to the side is faster.

Keep your posture up, trying not to lean into the trick. Watch the pattern with your head, not your chest.

Break it down. Work with one club and establish the technique. Then work with two. Then do a single throw out of a cascade. Etc., etc., etc.

Don't let the hands cross behind the back. For club backcrosses, use the club! Let it do the work. If viewed from the front, your hands should be visible the entire time. Choke down on the handle, down by the knob, so that the bell of the club goes to the middle of the back. You don't want to wrap your entire arm around because it means you have to carry it further to get back into position for the next throw.
