Steering 2 diabolos

Steven Ragatz - 1st January, 1990.

The most commonly accepted term for this is "steering."

If you can steer with one, then steering with two is an extension, although, not a simple one. You will be using the right hand stick to adjust the tilt and twist. As the diablo comes over the top, tapping on appropriate places will accomplish the desired adjustments. It takes a gentle touch. Try to follow the diablo as it heads down to make the adjustment - it will help not to jar it too much.

To adjust tilt you make contact on the outside edge (far right side) of the diablo. To adjust the twist, you make contact with the top edge of the diablo. So, to adjust for tilt and twist in all directions, you will have four places on the diablo to make contact, front/back/top/side. If you are adjusting the tilt and the twist is changed, then you probably are being too aggressive it too hard. If you let the stick grind the edge as you follow the diablo down, you can maintain a gentle touch and get the tilt to change without the twist.

You can also influence the alignment of the diablos with the string alone. As the diablo travels across the string, apply pressure by offsetting the hands, one in front of another. This method can fix very subtitle differences between the two diablos. But, for the most part, you will have to touch the diablo itself to make any major changes to it's orientation.

For the most extreme wobble, you can grind the diablo on the axle with the stick. Catch the diablo with the right hand stick as it comes over the top, pointing the end of the hand stick towards the ground and let the diablo adjust as is slides down the hand stick. This should be done only in the most extreme cases since it kills much of the spin.
