Introduction to RSS

What is it?

RSS is an easy way to keep up to date with your favourite websites. One of the main applications of RSS is newsfeeds, for example you will find a large number of RSS feeds on the BBC website. These feeds provide regular headlines on news stories which link back to the article on the BBC website. In the same way the IJDb uses RSS to keep you up-to-date with the world of juggling. RSS is growing in popularity and is becoming widely used by sites which have fast moving dynamic content.

How do I use it?

In order to view an RSS feed you need a newsreader. These are typically small applications that sit in your system tray and pop-up whenever a new headline appears. For example, if you subscribe to the rec.juggling feed, you will get a small pop-up whenever a new article is posted. There are numerous RSS newsreaders on the internet. I would recommend FeedReader if you use Windows, it is small and free.

rec.juggling - This feed provides headlines for each new post to rec.juggling. New headlines appear on an hourly basis.

IJDb chat - This feed provides headlines for each message posted in the IJDb chatroom. New headlines can appear every minute. This is a great way to listen-in to the chatroom to see if it is active.

IJDb Video Database - This feed provides details of new juggling videos as and when they are added to the IJDb video database. New videos are added on a daily basis.

IJDb Developers' Forum - Keep up-to-date with the latest IJDb developments as they are discussed in this forum.
